TUTORIAL : Obtain narrow-area terrain data (5m mesh, GSI)

The terrain data for arcAstroVR uses a 2D image data called GeoTiff, which represents elevation in shades of gray. Since the data will be divided into a mesh with pixel pitch, it is not possible to increase the resolution of only a portion of the data, and all areas will have a fixed-length mesh resolution.
To create terrain data for arcAstroVR from GeoTiff, use the free GIS software "QGIS". GIS is software for processing geographic information data, and GioTiff is one type of geographic information data. For the narrow-area terrain, you can use the 5-meter mesh DEM5A, a numerical elevation model of the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI), which is available free of charge. You can use any elevation data (GeoTiff, etc.) other than GSI data that can be imported into QGIS to create terrain data for arcAstroVR.

*The resolution of arcAstroVR narrow-area terrain data corresponds to 0.1 to 10 meters. The pixel size of the narrow terrain is 4096 x 4096px, so the area that can be represented corresponds to the data resolution, ranging from 409.6m to 40960m per side. *For detailed terrain of less than 1 m, modified-resolution 3D objectized terrain can often be more accurately represented than fixed-resolution terrain data. See Creating Detailed Terrain Data (Photogrammetry) for details.
